With links to Belo Horizonte in Brazil, Bantus Capoeira Malaysia is run under the tutorship of Instructors Raphael (Brazil) and Quek (Malaysia). The main academy is situated in one of the biggest suburbs in Kuala Lumpur - Petaling Jaya.
What I found with Bantus Capoeira Malaysia is a strong group of higher belts who were proactive in teaching and dedicated to injecting the art of Capoeira into one of South East Asia's most dynamic cities.
The academy itself is cosy and has pillars set at regular intervals. It is not the easiest place to find and it is set upstairs in a suburban business district.
Having met with Raphael a few times previously, and seen his Capoeira skills for myself, there is no question about his ability. What I also found while listening in on a practise session is that he has the Samba team at Bantus Malaysia superbly drilled.
What to expect -
Night classes for every weeknight, whether it be at the academy, in the city at Bukit Bintang or the dance academy at Sunway.
From my short stay there (3 training sessions) I felt that there was a good culture of friendship amongst the Malaysian Capoeiristas outside of training.
So if you're on the lookout for new friends whilst travelling...
